Napoleon Advancing

I've wanted to paint his set for years and last year I received it as a Christmas present. My one regret is a slight positioning error with Napoleon which stops his feet from touching the floor. My excuse is that he is swinging into action (pouncing if you like - hence the wide eyed expression of the young lady!).

Pictures from Beginning Wargaming article

Well I've finally submitted two articles to Wargames Soldiers and Strategy on beginning
wargaming.
The first will appear in Decembers issue and the next is currently being reviewed.
For the second article I must thank Bob Cordery for allowing me to use his When Empires Clash - Colonial Rules.
I thought I would update my blog with the photos used for the second article.

First up are the Boer figures

And here are the Brits

NB - The figures are unpainted because the main part of the article explains how to get gaming straight away and then covers painting the figures at the end. This is a deliberate choice because a beginner might get disheartened and give up if they had to do all the painting etc before they could begin.

Here are some painted Brits based for use with the Boers featured previously in this blog

Beginning Wargaming Article

A few days ago I submitted an initial beginning wargaming article to the editor of Wargames Soldiers and Strategy and am awaiting feedback on whether he wants to use it or not.

In the meantime - does anyone out there want to add an additional miniature painter to their team? I'm open to offers!

The New Avengers!

Cheap and cheerful Gambit, Purdie and Steed all from Clix figure repaints.
Steed has had a custom made umbrella added along with a very large gun!
Not quite sure what I'll use them for but I'm sure they'll get into some appropriate trouble at some point in time!

Pictures of the captain and his crew as promised

Two photos from my latest project. The figures are from the Strelets Boers set. They are soon to be joined by a boat crew taken from figures in the Strelets Crimean Cossacks & Sailors set and will also have figures from the Esci/Italeri Muslim warrior set as bearers etc.
The Dinos are cheap and cheerful ones from toy Dinosaur tubs.
More pictures will follow in due course.

My garden is my biggest battleground.
It's hard to believe but when my grandfather was alive the garden was beautifully maintained with masses of flowers and vegetables.
However, so far I've only just begun my campaign to re-conquer it!

Articulating

I have been giving serious thought to writing some simple 'get started in gaming' articles for two main reasons
1 - To encourage youngsters/newcomers
2 - In line with the Frugal Challenge of wargaming on a budget
If anyone has any thoughts as to whether this will fly then please share them with me.

The rambler is back - don't all cheer at once!

Question - Why do advertisers of new technology TV's demonstrate how wonderful they are by displaying them in action on adverts running on older technology TV's?

Feel free to enlighten me - someone - anyone.........please!

Overture and Beginners

I've never done a blog before (As if you couln't tell!) so I don't really know where this is going to go.

Perhaps I ought to tell anyone who happens across this, that I am in my fifties and refuse to grow up but sadly have to grow old. But hey life is to be enjoyed whatever your age!.

I make models, paint toy soldiers and fight wargames (my wife describes me as the 'anoraks anorak).

I am also a born again Christian belonging to a newly formed church with a heart to serve its community in everyway that honours God and reflects Jesus.

That's all for now - but there may be more.

If you happen to drop in, even accidentally, then make my day and leave a message even if it's to provide my wife with the number of a good sanatorium!
